The problem
By engaging in farm visits, students can witness, taste, and experience firsthand the process of food production that ends up on their plates daily. This direct encounter fosters a responsible connection with local food, as students gain insights into the challenges of food production and the importance of treating it with care.
The solution we used
To address this, we reached out to farmers in the area and scheduled a field trip. Transportation was arranged for the agreed-upon date, following a pre-determined plan for the excursion. The number of students accommodated depended on the farm's capacity, and in our case, a maximum of 30 students was allowed.
Implementation
After researching several farms in their area, students selected three with distinct focuses for the visit.
The first farm, Pružina Eco-Farm near Považská Bystrica, centered on sheep breeding and the production of sheep-related products.
The second, Podskalie Eco-Farm, specialized in cattle breeding, herbal tea production, and horse breeding.
The third farm, Gazdovstvo Uhliská, focused on pig breeding and the production of pork and pork products.
During the visits to each farm, students gained an insider's perspective on the production processes.
